The reason the transformation takes so long in Dark Souls 2 is because of the Bitterblack Fortress. In order to raise the level of the transformation, the game forces Guts to complete several levels of Hell in the Bitterblack Fortress by himself before entering the main boss fight with The Seeker. This is a pain in the ass that was never explained by the game's developers. In Darksign III, this practice is kept to a minimum. In fact, the transformation from the Guts armor into the Beast happens far sooner than it did in Dark Souls 2.
Finally, the transformation from Guts' Berserker armor to the Beast's is much quicker than in Dark Souls 2. In Dark Souls 2, Guts' training in the Bitterblack Fortress takes him through multiple levels of Hell culminating in an epic battle against the game's main antagonist, The Seeker. By the time Guts reaches the final level, the transformation into the Beast is already happening. In Darksign III, however, the transformation into the Beast happens within a few seconds. The only time the transformation takes place much more slowly is when you are wearing the Guts armor in the final boss fight in the Base of the Eclipse.
Secondly, it's impossible to wear the Guts armor and Berserker armor at the same time. You can only wear the Berserker armor when you've killed a boss in Darksign III, while the Guts armor is always present in the game world. However, wearing both armor pieces at the same time doesn't have any detrimental effects, and both armor pieces grant you the Dark Blood passive ability in place of the Guts' Bloodlust passive ability.
Now that the Beast is no longer a manifestation of Guts' inner darkness, will it be a permanent part of his character design? In the Heaven's Fire trailer, we see an alternate version of Guts wearing the Dark Knight armor. This armor is completely different than the Berserk armor, with no connection to Guts' Berserker armor and the dark, animal-like appearance in the trailer. Is this Guts' new armor? Or is this armor a new incarnation of the Beast?
The signs are looking good for a Dark Souls 3. At the same time, the series is taking its time a bit. Obviously, a huge announcement is coming. But just like Dark Souls 2, it will be a while before any concrete information can be revealed. For now, we can expect a few more screenshots to be released in the near future.
