A short time later, Jesus will come again and the righteous will be taken away to God’s heavenly kingdom, while the unrighteous are destroyed.’ 17 Then he said to his disciples, “Look! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man is going to be betrayed to the chief priests and elders of the people. 18 They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles. 19 They will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. And on the third day, he will rise. 20 The people who are in their graves will come out of their graves. Those who have done good deeds will go to the heavenly kingdom, while those who have done evil will go away to the everlasting fire.”
21 “What are you talking about,” the disciples asked him. “You will rise from the dead!” 22 “I am telling you the truth,” he said. “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and teachers of the law and the Pharisees. 23 And he will be murdered and on the third day be raised to life.
